Traumatic lip/congenital cleft-lip reconstruction

Lip Repairs & Cleft Lip Reconstruction

Our medical team at Dr Melissa Clinic have successfully treated and reconstructed lips for a large number of patients who have suffered congenital abnormalities of the lip and traumatic facial injuries.

This is a skill involving not only a deep understanding of anatomy but also a sensitivity to the emotional elements involved in such treatments.  All patients are given a thorough examination prior to any injectable treatment.

What can lip filler do to help?

1. Volume Restoration: Lips that have gone through a trauma, such as surgery, often result in an asymmetrical or underdeveloped appearance of the upper lip. Lip fillers can be strategically injected to restore volume and symmetry, creating a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

2. Scar Revision: Lips that have been through a surgical repair can leave behind scars or uneven tissue. Lip fillers can be used to soften the appearance of scars and smooth out any irregularities in the lip contour, helping to improve overall symmetry and texture.

3. Contouring and Definition: You may find your lips may lack definition along the vermilion border (the border between the lip and the surrounding skin). Lip fillers can be used to enhance the contours of the lips, defining the vermilion border and creating a more defined and attractive lip shape.

4. Balance and Proportion: Lips that have had surgical repair, or which have gone through another trauma, can affect the balance and proportion of the lips in relation to the rest of the face. Lip fillers can help achieve better balance by adding volume and shaping the lips to harmonise with the overall facial features, enhancing facial symmetry and proportions.

5. Functional Improvement: In addition to cosmetic benefits, lip fillers can also help improve functional issues associated with cleft lips in particular, such as difficulties with speech or eating. By restoring volume and improving lip function, lip fillers can contribute to overall confidence and quality of life for individuals with cleft lips.

It’s important to note that while lip fillers can provide significant improvements in the appearance of lips, they are not a substitute for surgical correction or other necessary treatments. A comprehensive approach involving collaboration with plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and other healthcare professionals is often recommended to address the unique needs of individuals with traumatic lip/congenital cleft lip reconstruction.
